Brief Description of Duties/Responsibilities: Southern invites applications from individuals who believe in the mission of public higher education and are committed to outstanding teaching and scholarship. Successful candidates will be disciplinary scholars devoted to a student-centric approach. The Math Department is seeking to hire a full-time, tenure-track faculty member, to begin August 2024, who is passionate about teaching mathematics to undergraduates. Teaching duties include introductory-level courses in the Department of Mathematics, foundational courses in the Liberal Education Program and varied upper-level courses within multiple specialties. Candidates must be committed to teaching within a vibrant/demanding public liberal arts and sciences environment, and demonstrate the potential for excellence in teaching, mentoring and research with undergraduates. All faculty at SCSU share in academic advising and participate in department/university service. Normal teaching load is 12 credit-hours per semester (most courses are 3 or 4 credits), with opportunities for a reduced teaching load through competitively awarded reassigned time. Tenure-track faculty at SCSU are expected to pursue scholarship in their area of expertise. These activities include mentoring student research leading to publication of theses, publishing articles in academic and professional journals, seeking funding in support of research and teaching needs, and contributing to workshops and conferences. Active scholarship is expected and generously supported. Required Qualifications: Qualifications must include an earned doctorate in Mathematics as well as the ability to teach a wide range of mathematics and/or statistics/data science classes at the undergraduate level in more than one area of specialty. ABD candidates for the position must be on a course to earn their degree in mathematics by the start date. Candidates' research programs and related teaching interests must complement the department’s curriculum and mission. Applicants must have broad intellectual interests in mathematics with a commitment to both teaching and scholarship. Preferred Qualifications: Preference will be given to candidates having experience with any of the following: college-level teaching (especially at regional comprehensive public university), research or internship supervision, or increasing diversity, equity and inclusion in the mathematical sciences.
