Communications Coordinator - Sydney Mathematical Research Institute locations: University of Sydney, Camperdown Campus time type: Full time job requisition id: 0116137 Full-time, 2 year fixed-term contract with possibility of extension Opportunity to develop communication, marketing, events and promotional activities to promote the Sydney Mathematical Research Institute and showcase its research, located in the Quadrangle building on the University’s Camperdown campus. Base salary starting from $95,860 (HEO 6) plus 17% superannuation About the opportunity: Sydney Mathematical Research Institute is the first of its kind in Australia, drawing leading mathematical scientists from all over the world to do research with Australian collaborators, and engaging with the public. The mission of the Institute is to transform mathematics as a discipline in Australia and reap the long-term benefits of that transformation. The primary objectives of the Institute are, to attract top international researchers in the mathematical sciences; to provide a collaborative environment for visiting researchers; to connect with worldwide mathematical communities and establish formal links with major institutions; and to enhance the public’s awareness and understanding of mathematical research through outreach activities. The University of Sydney is welcoming applications for a Communications Coordinator to join the Sydney Mathematical Research Institute at the Camperdown campus. The Communications Coordinator develops and implements communication, marketing and promotional activities which convey the research of the Sydney Mathematical Research Institute to a broad audience, including the general public, international researchers, staff and students of the University, alumni and potential donors. The Communications Coordinator operates with reasonable autonomy to coordinate and deliver the activities mentioned above, under the guidance of the Executive Officer and the SMRI Directors. This will require the incumbent to independently make decisions related to the tasks to be undertaken, and to prioritise work to meet broad objectives. Responsibilities will include: Researching, planning and developing effective communication and engagement strategies that will promote the Institute Developing and promoting the Institute’s social media profile and presence, which drives engagement and advocacy across key audiences Providing support for events, including the editing event recordings to maximise outreach and impact Positively and proactively working with both University staff and affiliated international researchers to effectively showcase the Institute’s research Producing and maintaining relevant content for the Sydney Mathematical Research Institute website and e-newsletter Collating relevant data and information for reporting purposes. About you: Undergraduate degree in Mathematics, Science or relevant field; or experience in science education, outreach and/or communication Demonstrated highly developed verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to prepare and present communications for a variety of audiences Experience in delivering a high level of service to both internal and external stakeholders Excellent organisational and time management skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and conflicting deadlines ability to work autonomously and proactively experience in writing promotional or marketing collaterals experience in web design and social media marketing experience in video content creation and production experience in event management and promotional activities willingness to occasionally work flexible hours and to attend events off campus and/or outside of business hours.
