Position Description

The Department of Mathematics at the University of Innsbruck seeks to fill the position of a full-time (40 hours per week) assistant professor as of February 01, 2025. The position is initially limited to 6 years. A tenure-track agreement can be offered within the first year of employment and upon its positive evaluation, the position is converted into a tenured associate professorship.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES: The candidate is expected to do independent research in the field of Discrete Mathematics. Acquisition of third-party funding and building up an independent research group is also a required task. The candidate is expected to prepare and conduct teaching at university level within the study programs of the Department of Mathematics (in English and subsequently in German). Moreover, the candidate is expected to supervise students. In addition to duties in research and teaching, the candidate is expected to initiate cooperations within the Department of Mathematics and the university and to take part in academic self-administration.

JOB REQUIREMENTS: Excellent doctoral degree in mathematics or a related field; research experience in the area of discrete mathematics; relevant professional experience beyond the PhD; teaching experience at university level desirable; relevant scientific achievements beyond the PhD; relevant research achievements – demonstrated by pertinent publications in leading international peer-reviewed journals and presentations at international conferences/workshops; relevant professional mobility experience during or after the PhD; successful acquisition of third-party funding; German language skills (proficiency of level B2 or higher, or willingness to attain this level within the first two years); the ability to work in a team and communication skills; the application should include a research statement, detailing research plans at habilitation level, as well as a teaching statement.

Tenure-Track model: The vacant post offers a continuous scientific career up to an associate professor. A key component of this tenure track model is the so called "Qualifizierungsvereinbarung" (qualification agreement). An initial salary of € 4.752 p.m.* shall be offered for this position. In the following, the conclusion of the qualification agreement will entitle to an increased salary of € 5.124 p.m.* and the fulfillment of the agreed qualification objectives will entitle to an increased salary of € 5.546 p.m.*. All mentioned salaries are monthly gross salaries, paid 14 times p.a.
