Position Description
Ohio Wesleyan University's Department of Mathematics and Computer Science invites applications for a one-year Visiting Assistant Professor position in mathematics to begin in August 2024. We seek an enthusiastic instructor with demonstrated interest in mathematics, especially applied mathematics or computer science. Teaching responsibilities include three courses per semester.Ideal candidates will have interest and experience teaching and mentoring students of all backgrounds, including those underrepresented in mathematics. Candidates should also be able to effectively teach courses in which student skills vary widely. While the ability to teach mathematics courses is most essential, applicants with the versatility to teach courses in allied disciplines such as statistics, computer science or data analytics will be especially favored.

Preferred Qualifications:
- A PhD in mathematics, applied mathematics, or a closely related field, although we will also consider applications from candidates planning to complete such a degree within three semesters.
- Record of successful college-level teaching experience and scholarly activity.
- Candidates with experience teaching and mentoring students from marginalized backgrounds (including students of color, first-generation, and LGBQTIA+ students), and/or candidates skilled in pedagogical practices that promote classroom inclusivity are especially encouraged to apply.

- Curriculum vita
- Teaching Statement: A statement articulating your teaching philosophy and practice. Please address your ability to teach a wide range of courses and employ a variety of pedagogical techniques to reach students from different backgrounds.
- DEI statement: A statement that describes your experience and/or approach to supporting students from underrepresented groups, including examples of ways in which you have intentionally addressed diversity, equity, and inclusion in your classroom.
- Transcripts of graduate work (unofficial transcripts are acceptable for initial application).
- Three letters of recommendation, at least one of which focuses your teaching effectiveness. Alternatively, you may provide three references with the understanding that they will be asked to provide written letters of recommendation later.
