Position Description:    

The Department of Mathematics at North Carolina State University invites applications for one non-tenure-track position as an Assistant Teaching Professor starting in August 2025. We seek highly qualified candidates passionate about teaching, with a strong preference for those specializing in mathematical data science. This position provides an excellent opportunity for mathematicians with a strong interest in developing a long-term career in effective teaching at a major research university. The initial appointment is for three years. Based on overall performance, the position is renewable, and promotions in rank are possible. Primary responsibilities are to teach three courses (undergraduate and/or graduate level) per semester and to carry out creative and innovative service and scholarly activities to support the department's teaching needs and mission. The position offers the opportunity for continuing involvement in projects and activities such as curriculum development, the creation of online courses, student academic advising and mentoring, and course coordination, with an emphasis on departmental initiatives in mathematical data science.

 

Candidates must have a PhD in mathematics, applied mathematics, computational science, or a related area; experience in, and a continued commitment to, effective teaching at the undergraduate and/or graduate levels; demonstrated potential for effective communication, collaboration, and student mentoring; and some programming experience in the context of computational mathematics and/or mathematical data science. Preferred requirements include doctoral or postdoctoral research in an area related to mathematical data science and the potential for mentoring undergraduate research projects.
