Position Description
The Department of Mathematics at UW-Madison
The
Department of Mathematics is now accepting applications for faculty
positions beginning August 18, 2025, subject to budgetary approval. Rank
will be as assistant professor (tenure-track), associate professor
(tenured), or in exceptional cases, professor (tenured).
All areas of mathematics will be considered. A PhD in mathematics or related field is required prior to start of appointment.
The successful
candidate will advance the educational mission of the College of Letters &
Science, that values, prioritizes, and actualizes evidence-based and
student-centered teaching and mentoring. They will
contribute to an inclusive, fair, and equitable environment that fosters
engagement and a sense of belonging for faculty, staff, students and members of
the broader community. Appointment with tenure requires
evidence of excellence in scholarly research, teaching, and service.
Candidates for a tenure - track position should exhibit evidence of
outstanding research potential, normally including significant
contributions beyond the doctoral dissertation.
The
teaching responsibility is normally two courses per academic year, one
course per semester. Courses taught include both undergraduate and
graduate level courses. A strong commitment to excellence in instruction
is expected. The successful
candidate, as a member of the College of L&S, will proactively contribute
to, support, and advance the college’s commitment to equity among all aspects
of their teaching, mentoring, research, and service.
An application packet should include a completed AMS
Standard Cover Sheet, a curriculum vitae that includes a publication
list, and brief descriptions of research, teaching, and mentoring. Please note that applicants will be evaluated based upon submitted materials and therefore should speak to and include evidence of their qualifications. The successful
candidate will demonstrate experience with fostering or the ability to foster
an inclusive and equity-centered teaching, learning, mentoring, departmental,
and research environment where all can thrive.
We require three to four letters of recommendation, at least one of which must discuss the applicant's teaching experiences, capabilities, and potential,
