PhD position in Theoretical Oceanography (Geophysical Fluid Dynamics)

Applications are invited for an open PhD position on internal wave energetics, within the Collaborative Research Center TRR181 on "Energy Transfers in Atmosphere and Ocean" (https://www.trr-energytransfers.de). The position is part of the subproject L2 "Quantifying Dynamical Regimes in the Ocean and the Atmosphere" and is based at the Leibniz-Institute for Baltic Sea Research (IOW), located directly at the Baltic Sea beach in Rostock-Warnemünde, Germany.

The successful PhD candidate will contribute to the understanding of the energy transfers between eddies and internal gravity waves and the quantification of internal wave emission in realistic ocean models using flow decomposition. Candidates with an ongoing or completed Master degree (in physical oceanography, meteorology, physics, mathematics, or a related field) and a strong background in geophysical fluid dynamics, ocean dynamics, theory, and/or mathematics are welcome to apply.

The position is to be filled as soon as possible, but no later than 1st Dec 2024, for three years.
