University Professorship (m/f/d) in Algebra

The Faculty of Mathematics and Physics invites applications for the following position of Salary Scale W3 NBesO starting 1 October 2025: University Professorship (m/f/d) in Algebra
The Position
The professorship in algebra is intended to complement the existing professorships in pure mathematics with a current focus. It will thus create synergies and further develop these areas thematically. It is intended to integrate the professorship centrally into the Research Training Group 2965.
The duties include:
- Developing and shaping research in the subject concerned
- Academic advancement of students, doctoral candidates and postdocs
- Participation in and initiation of third-party funded projects and research networks
- Participating in academic self-administration in the institute and faculty
- Teaching in basic lectures and advanced courses in the bachelor's and master's degree programs in mathematics
- Basic teaching in the teacher training courses as well as for computer science, engineering and natural sciences
Your Profile
- We are looking for an internationally recognized researcher who represents the subject in teaching and research in its entirety and has a long-term perspective for the professorship and its integration into the local research environment.
- Possible areas of focus are algebraic combinatorics, arithmetic geometry and algebraic number theory. A research profile is expected that offers links to the main areas of research in the Institute, in the Research Training Group 2965 and in the Faculty.
- Strong publication and lecture activity as well as the ability and willingness to acquire third-party funding are expected.
- Very good English and - after three years at the latest - good German language skills are expected, especially for giving lectures.
- Concepts for the promotion of young academics and equal opportunities are desirable.
- Experience in supervising doctoral candidates and theses, the ability and willingness to work in public relations and the ability to work in a team are an advantage.

An der Fakultät für Mathematik und Physik ist folgende Position der BesGr. W3 NBesO zum 01.10.2025 zu besetzen: Universitätsprofessur (m/w/d) für Algebra
Die Position
Die Professur in der Algebra soll die bestehenden Professuren in der reinen Mathematik in einem aktuellen Schwerpunkt sinnvoll ergänzen. Damit wird sie Synergien schaffen und diese Bereiche thematisch weiterentwickeln. Es ist beabsichtigt, die Professur in das Graduiertenkolleg 2965 zentral einzubinden.
Die Aufgaben umfassen u.a.:
- Entwickeln und Gestalten der Forschung in dem betroffenen Fach
- Wissenschaftliche Förderung von Studierenden, Promovierenden und PostDocs
- Beteiligen an und Initiieren von Drittmittelprojekten und Forschungsverbünden
- Beteiligen an der wissenschaftlichen Selbstverwaltung im Institut und in der Fakultät
- Lehre in Grundvorlesungen und fortgeschrittenen Veranstaltungen im Bachelor und Master Mathematik
- Grundständige Lehre in den Lehramtsstudiengängen sowie für die Informatik und die Ingenieurs- und Naturwissenschaften
Ihr Profil
- Gesucht wird eine international hervorragend ausgewiesene Forscherpersönlichkeit, die das Fach in Lehre und Forschung in voller Breite vertritt und eine langfristige Perspektive für die Professur sowie deren Einbindung in das lokale Forschungsumfeld hat.
- Mögliche Schwerpunkte sind algebraische Kombinatorik, arithmetische Geometrie sowie algebraische Zahlentheorie. Es wird ein Forschungsprofil erwartet, das Anknüpfungspunkte zu Forschungsschwerpunkten im Institut, im Graduiertenkolleg 2965 und in der Fakultät bietet.
- Erwartet werden starke Publikations- und Vortragstätigkeit sowie die Fähigkeit und Bereitschaft zur Einwerbung von Drittmitteln.
- Sehr gute englische und – spätestens nach drei Jahren – gute deutsche Sprachkenntnisse werden erwartet, insbesondere für das Halten von Vorlesungen.
- Konzepte zur Förderung des wissenschaftlichen Nachwuchses und der Gleichstellung sind wünschenswert.
- Erfahrung bei der Betreuung von Promovierenden und Abschlussarbeiten, die Fähigkeit und Bereitschaft zur Öffentlichkeitsarbeit sowie Teamfähigkeit sind von Vorteil.
