Position Description
Syracuse University is a vibrant, diverse institution renowned for its commitment to academic excellence and innovation. The Department of Mathematics is a dynamic, collaborative community comprised of 33 full-time faculty in pure and applied mathematics, statistics, and math education. We are seeking a tenure-track Assistant Professor to join our statistics group and contribute to its growth and success.
We invite applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position in Statistics. The successful candidate will be expected to contribute to our department’s research, teaching at both undergraduate and graduate levels, and service. We welcome applicants from all areas of statistics. Preference will be given to candidates whose research interests overlap with the existing faculty, particularly causal inference, high-dimensional statistics, semiparametric/nonparametric methods, change-point problems, signal processing, Bayesian statistics and machine learning. Candidates must have a PhD in Statistics, Biostatistics, or a related field. Post-doctoral experience is highly desirable but not required.
Key Responsibilities:
- Establish and maintain a strong, independent research program in Statistics.
- Publish research in leading journals and present at academic conferences.
- Teach undergraduate and graduate courses in Statistics.
- Mentor and advise students at various levels.
- Participate in departmental and university service activities.
- Engage in interdisciplinary collaboration and contribute to the university’s mission.
Qualifications:
- Ph.D. in Statistics, Biostatistics, or a related field by the time of appointment.
- Demonstrated potential for excellence in research, evidenced by a solid publication record or significant research accomplishments.
- Strong commitment to teaching and ability to teach a variety of courses.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Commitment to fostering a diverse and inclusive academic environment.
