Job Description: Baker University invites qualified candidates to apply for a full-time, tenure-track Assistant Professor of Data Science position in the Department of Physics, Mathematics, and Computer Science. This position is scheduled to begin in August 2025. Review of applications will begin on November 1, 2024, and will continue until the position is filled. Applicants specializing in any area of Data Science are strongly encouraged to apply. Any background in Data Science or Computer Science will be considered. Job Requirements: A Master's in Data Science, Computer Science, or a related field with a demonstrated commitment to excellence in teaching and scholarship. Candidates who are ABD will be considered, provided the dissertation is to be completed within one year of employment. Experience in and demonstrated effectiveness in teaching at the collegiate level or a documented record of at least five years of professional involvement in the discipline. The teaching load will be 24 credit hours per academic year. The successful applicant should have a strong interest in and commitment to teaching in a liberal arts university, be able to teach a wide variety of undergraduate courses, and will be expected to contribute to the strength of the academic community through teaching, advising, scholarship, research with undergraduate students, and service. Contribution to the general education program by teaching non-majors is expected as it will constitute a major portion of the candidate’s teaching responsibilities. The position requires applicants who are dedicated to teaching in a small (ca. 900-student) college setting with a 4/4 teaching load and are committed to student-centered learning. With additional responsibilities including student advising and usual service to the department, university, and community. Baker University is located 30 minutes southwest of the Kansas City metropolitan area, and 15 minutes from Lawrence, home of the University of Kansas. It is the oldest university in Kansas, having been founded in 1858. It is respected throughout the region as a high-quality liberal arts university that gives students a strong education and a tight-knit, supportive environment for learning and growing.
