Position Description
The Department of Mathematical Sciences at Carnegie Mellon University invites applications for a tenure-track position to begin September 1, 2025. The position is intended at Assistant Professor level, but exceptional candidates of any rank may be considered. This search will focus on the areas of mathematics of optimization, mathematical foundations of machine learning and AI, and AI for mathematics, broadly construed. Through this appointment the Department hopes to enhance our existing connections with the School of Computer Science, the Department of Statistics and Data Science, the Tepper School of Business, or the Hoskinson Center for Formal Mathematics or develop new connections.
Qualifications
Preference will be given to candidates with research expertise in the areas of mathematics with ties to AI and machine learning including high-dimensional probability and analysis, optimization, and computer-assisted mathematics, including the use of proof assistants. Demonstrated experience in mentoring students is desirable. Interest in advancing interdisciplinary endeavors is valued.
