JOB PURPOSE: The University of Wyoming seeks to fill an Academic Professional Lecturer (APL) position in Mathematics to begin August, 2025. This is a full-time benefited position; after a probationary period, the successful candidate will be eligible for a 3-year rolling contract appointment. This position is associated with the department’s tutoring center, and, in addition to teaching, job duties for this position will include professional development, service associated with the center and the department. The expected teaching load is two courses per term. The Mathematics and Statistics Department has 30 faculty members, 22 of which are active researchers working in algebra, combinatorics, graph theory, convex analysis, operator algebras, probability, numerical analysis, modeling, mathematical biology, math education, and statistics. The department is also home to 32 graduate students and maintains lively graduate programs in mathematics and statistics. The department is a part of the newly formed College of Engineering and Physical Sciences (CEPS) of the University of Wyoming. This College includes 10 departments and the newly formed School of Computing. The College prides itself on research innovation, teaching excellence, industrial engagement, and broader societal impact. With a significantly increased budget, we have embarked on a transformational journey to become a Tier-1 Institution, recognized nationally for academic excellence and world-class research. This includes new state-of-the-art facilities and dedicated funding for research initiatives. We are hiring a cohort of new faculty across the College, and we seek to attract a diverse and inclusive group of talented faculty. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: The primary responsibilities of this position are effective teaching, advising, service, and professional development. The successful candidate will be expected to take a leadership role in the continuing development of the department’s tutoring center and to provide support and leadership for the department's lower-division program (courses in algebra, precalculus, trigonometry, and calculus). Such leadership includes curriculum enhancement, pedagogical innovation, development of student instructors, and articulation with Wyoming high schools and community colleges. REMOTE WORK ELIGIBILITY: This position provides vital support to campus customers and requires the successful candidate be available to work on campus. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: (1) Master’s degree in Mathematics or a closely related field with a minimum of 18 graduate hours in mathematics; (2) relevant experience teaching at the college level; (3) strong oral and written communication skills. DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS: Preference will be given to those applicants who can demonstrate the following: (1) Experience in teaching and coordinating lower-division classes; (2) Experience developing a tutoring center to enhance student success in the mathematical sciences; (3) Experience in pedagogical innovations; (4) Experience with instructor training and development.
