Fellowship Description
Starting Fall 2025, the math department at Texas State
University will have a one-year postdoctoral fellowship available to work
on several projects related to research in undergraduate mathematics education. The
position will be under the mentorship of Dr.
Kate Melhuish and will involve opportunities to join different
projects depending on interests and background. Each project involves the
intersection of proof-based courses and issues of equity and inclusion. Three
focal projects include:
- Structuring
Equitable Participation in Undergraduate Proof
- Generating
a Research-Informed Transition to Mathematical Proof Curriculum
- Using corpus linguistics/natural language processing to analyze proof texts for their linguistic features and potential codifications of gendered communication markers
The math department at Texas State has a core of 18 mathematics education researchers with an active mathematics education seminar and large math ed Ph.D. program. As a postdoc, you will have opportunities to collaborate with many faculty, attend specialized methods courses, and engage in rich conversations with an active faculty base.
In addition to working on research projects, the position will include teaching one course per semester for the mathematics department.
Required qualifications:
- Mathematics Education
Ph.D. or Ph.D. in a closely related field
- 18 graduate hours in mathematics
Preferred qualifications:
- Knowledge of
quantitative analysis methods AND/OR
- Knowledge of basic
programming in Python AND/OR
- Knowledge of critical methods
