Position Description
Kennesaw State University is now accepting applications for an administrative faculty position as a tenured Professor and Chair of the Department of Mathematics with a preferred start date of July 1, 2025. This is a twelve-month contracted position. This position is for work to be performed in the state of Georgia. The College of Science and Mathematics seeks a visionary and effective leader to serve as chair.
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities of the Chair, who reports to the Dean, include, but are not limited to:
- Advocating for the department with respect to the mission and expectations of the college and university.
- Championing the interests of a growing department comprised of a dedicated faculty serving a vibrant and large student body.
- Demonstrating a commitment to transparency, shared governance, collaborative decision-making, and the values of inquiry, fairness, and collegiality.
- Promoting a supportive work environment that is respectful, fair, and caring for all faculty and staff.
- Implementing a plan for the departmental role in strengthening the university as an R2 research institution.
- Managing the department budget and resources.
- Providing oversight of academic programs and developing new ones.
- Recruiting and retaining faculty and staff.
- Managing and steering the development of faculty and staff.
- Demonstrating a commitment to principles of excellence in teaching, research, and in the administrative operations of the department.
Teaching assignments will be based on earned degrees and SACSCOC Faculty Credentials Guidelines.
Required Qualifications
- An earned doctoral degree, or its foreign equivalent, in an area of Mathematics or a closely related field with an academic background and appropriate credentials to be a tenured Professor in the Department of Mathematics in the College of Science and Mathematics at KSU is required.
- A record of successful professional or administrative leadership, cultivating and promoting a shared vision among colleagues.
- Evidence of consistent research productivity in Mathematics or a closely related field.
- Experience in teaching at the undergraduate or graduate level and a record of excellence in teaching.
Preferred Qualifications
- A strong record of mentoring faculty and students.
- A record of administrative experience, including budgeting, in a department, college, or university setting.
- A record of external support for research or experience in pursuit and administration of programmatic or training grants.
- Experience in building academic or research programs.
