Position Description

The Oden Institute for Computational Engineering and Sciences at The University of Texas at Austin invites applications for a Postdoctoral Fellow position in Computational Mathematics under the joint supervision of Dr. Joe Kileel and Dr. Gunnar Martinsson. Candidates should have a background in at least one of the following areas: tensor methods, randomized linear algebra, streaming algorithms, nonconvex optimization, scientific computing, or applied algebraic geometry. This research position offers an opportunity to work in a world-class interdisciplinary environment, collaborating with leading researchers in computational science, engineering, and mathematics. 

About the Oden Institute: 
The Oden Institute is an organized research unit that fosters interdisciplinary programs in computational sciences and engineering, computational medicine, computational geosciences, mathematical modeling, applied mathematics, data science, software engineering, and computational visualization 

Position Details:
• Job Title: Postdoctoral Fellow 
• Location: Oden Institute, University of Texas at Austin 
• Start Date: August 1, 2025 
 • Duration: The position is funded for one year, with the possibility of continuation based on performance, research progress, and funding availability. The appointment can be renewed up to 4 times, with an expected duration of 2–3 years. 
• Application Deadline: Dr. Kileel and Dr. Martinsson will begin reviewing applications after December 1, 2024. Virtual interviews of shortlisted candidates will occur later in December or January. 
• Salary Range: $70,000+ / year 

Qualifications:
• Ph.D. in the mathematical sciences, expected before the start date or received within the past three years 
•Outstanding research potential 
• Good publication record 
• A plus but not required – experience with scientific programming
