Position Description

Biostatistics Faculty Search Assistant Professor, The Dartmouth Institute for Health Policy and Clinical Practice

The Dartmouth Institute for Health Policy and Clinical Practice at the Geisel School of Medicine at Dartmouth invites applications for tenure-track appointment at the rank of assistant professor as part of a targeted expansion of Dartmouth’s biostatistics faculty. The Dartmouth Institute's mission is to improve public health, reduce disparities, and create high-performing health systems. This recruitment aims to expand Dartmouth’s capability to perform research on innovative quantitative methods motivated by important problems in public health, health services, and health policy.

Applicants for this position must have earned a PhD or equivalent degree in statistics, biostatistics, or a related discipline and indicate long-term success as an independent investigator, as evidenced by first-authored peer-reviewed publications and/or successful grant funding within the field. Applicants working in any relevant area of statistics, including causal inference, innovative clinical trials, machine learning, network analysis, and spatial statistics, with strong computing skills, are especially welcome. The successful applicant will be expected to lead a portfolio of independent, methods-advancing work, drawing on collaborative relationships with members of the Dartmouth community for health services or policy questions requiring innovative statistical design and analysis approaches. They will also be able to construct generalizable solutions that can be applied to future problems. A generous start-up package, access to state-of-the-art research facilities, and a secondary faculty appointment in the Department of Biomedical Data Science will be provided.

Teaching and mentoring are a critical part of this role. The successful candidate will be provided with opportunities to teach and mentor through relevant PhD and master’s programs (e.g., those connected to the Program in Quantitative Biomedical Sciences or The Dartmouth Institute for Health Policy and Clinical Practice).

Dartmouth is committed to academic excellence and encourages the open exchange of ideas within a culture of mutual respect. People with different backgrounds, life experiences, and perspectives make the Dartmouth community diverse, which enhances academic excellence. In their cover letter, applicants should address how their research, teaching, service, and/or life experiences prepare them to advance Dartmouth's commitment to diversity in service of academic excellence.

Applicants should upload a cover letter, curriculum vitae, a research statement describing their research interests and future research plans (up to 3 pages), a statement of teaching philosophy (up to one page), and three letters of recommendation from referees to https://apply.interfolio.com/157418.

Applications will be screened beginning on November 15, 2024, and continuing until the position is filled. The target start date for this position is September 1, 2025 (negotiable).
