Position Description

Thanks to the support of the Simons Foundation, the Institute of Mathematics at Cuernavaca (UCIM) of Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (UNAM), announces 5 postdoctoral positions. These are part of the UCIM’s “Geometry Program” aimed toward consolidating Cuernavaca as a top research pole for geometry in the Americas. It includes algebraic, differential and tropical geometry, singularity theory, geometric topology, geometric analysis and dynamical systems. Cuernavaca is 60 km south of Mexico City. For more information, visit: www.matcuer.unam.mx. Each postdoc has a duration of 1 year, renewable for up to 2 additional years. The positions are free of teaching duties.

Candidates must have obtained their PhD in mathematics before the starting date of their contract and no more than 5 years prior to that date. There are no nationality restrictions. Special consideration will be given to applications from women. It is strongly recommended, but not absolutely necessary, that candidates have an agreed-upon work project with a researcher in Cuernavaca, either from UCIM or from the neighboring Universidad Autónoma del Estado de Morelos (UAEM). The fellowship amount is $1,800 USD per month. Each hired candidate is required to obtain their own health insurance covering their stay in Mexico (we’ll give them advice). Additionally, each postdoc will receive $1,500 USD per year for academic activities. Applications should include a cover letter, CV, two or more letters of recommendation, and a research statement. All documentation must be submitted exclusively through mathjobs.org. The positions begin on July 1, 2025, but there will be flexibility to start earlier or later, subject to approval by the selection committee. The deadline for submitting documents is January 31, 2025. Later applications will be considered but they will depend upon availability. Responses will be provided by April 30, 2025, at the latest.
