Amherst College is inviting applications for a Visiting Researcher position in Applied Mathematics with a flexible start date of no later than June 2025. Applications must be submitted and received by December 25th, 2024. The Visiting Researcher is a full-time, fixed-term position, starting at $56,484 per year. Given Amherst’s distinction as one of the most diverse liberal arts colleges in the country, the successful candidate will demonstrate the ways in which they bring value to and will work towards supporting a broadly diverse community.
The position is funded by an NSF grant for a duration of 18 months. The selected candidate will collaborate with the principal investigator on research focusing on non-local hyperbolic conservation laws, with particular emphasis on traffic flow applications. Special consideration will be given to applicants whose research interests align with mathematical analysis, dynamical systems, conservation laws, and applied or computational mathematics, particularly those with potential interdisciplinary applications. The successful candidate will also be expected to mentor a diverse group of undergraduate students involved in related projects.
Summary of Responsibilities:
- Conduct mathematical research on non-local hyperbolic conservation laws and mentor undergraduate students working on related projects
- Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned

- Ph.D in Mathematics or Applied Mathematics
