About the Department: The Mathematical Sciences Department in the College of Science (COS) at George Mason University offers undergraduate, Master’s, and Ph.D. programs in pure, applied, and computational mathematics. High-level research across a variety of disciplines is strengthened through collaborations with local government/industry partners and nearby universities. High-quality teaching and community engagement is achieved through innovative strategies including extensive outreach work, active learning, hands-on undergraduate research, and internship programs with high success rates among both undergraduate and graduate students. About the Position: The Tenure Track Assistant Professor is expected to produce research on a regular basis, which should include publications, talks, and grant applications. The job also involves teaching at both the undergraduate and graduate levels and supporting the department’s undergraduate, M.S., and Ph.D. programs in Mathematics. The expectation is: 40% research, 40% teaching, and 20% service. The search will focus primarily on applicants with expertise in the areas of number theory, combinatorics, and classical analysis.

Responsibilities:

Teaches at both the undergraduate and graduate levels and supports the department’s undergraduate, M.S., and Ph.D. programs in Mathematics; Expected to produce research on a regular basis, which should include publications, talks, and grant applications; and Serves on committees and performs other service as needed.

Required Qualifications:

Ph.D. in mathematics or closely related field; Strong records in both research and teaching; Skills in teaching undergraduate and graduate level courses; Ability to work with and collaborate with others in a diverse dynamic environment; and Evidence of strong communication skills (e.g., technical talks, presentations, etc.)

Preferred Qualifications:

Postdoctoral experience is preferred; Demonstrated knowledge in research, teaching, advising, mentoring, and service/citizenship; Ability to contribute to initiatives promoting access, justice, equity, diversity, and inclusion; Commitment to leadership, service, and outreach activities will be highly valued; and Research interests align with those of the department.
