Charles University in Prague, Faculty of Mathematics and Physics, School of Mathematics
Position Description
Two 3-year postdoctoral positions in Number Theory
The Faculty of Mathematics and Physics, Charles University (Prague) invites applications for two postdoctoral positions in Number Theory.
The positions will be funded by Dr. Man's project "Automorphic forms for symplectic groups via trace formula" and Dr. Cech's project "Multiple Dirichlet series and analytic number theory". Knowledge of Czech is not necessary; teaching is negotiable but will typically consist of one or two advanced courses (in number theory or a related area, taught in English) per year. Due to the restrictions of the funding agency, applicants must have received their Ph.D. within the last 8 years (exceptions are possible in cases of parental leave and long-term sickness). The gross salary is approx. 56000 CZK (~2200 EUR) per month, which is sufficient for a comfortable life in Prague.
The expected duration of the position is September 1, 2025 – August 31, 2028 (negotiable).
Strong applicants from all areas of number theory (broadly interpreted) are welcome to apply, although preference may be given to the theory of automorphic forms, L-functions and analytic number theory.
The Faculty of Mathematics and Physics at Charles University is the leading institution in mathematics in Czechia, with highly motivated and well-educated students in our mathematics programs. The School of Mathematics has about 110 academic positions, covering most of the major areas of mathematics. The Department of Algebra, where the position will be hosted, offers an open-minded international environment with outstanding conditions for independent research. We currently have about 15 permanent and 15 postdoctoral employees, including approx. 20 international researchers and 8 number theorists. More information can be found at the faculty website, the website of the Prague number theory group, and the websites of Siu Hang Man and Martin Cech.
Informal inquiries concerning the positions are welcome — please email Siu Hang Man at shman@karlin.mff.cuni.cz or Martin Cech at martin.cech@matfyz.cuni.cz.

The main application requirements are curriculum vitae, research statement, and two letters of recommendation.
The application deadline is February 10, 2025.
