Position Description

Southeastern Louisiana University's Department of Mathematics invites applications for a tenure-track position at the Assistant Professor rank in the area of computational mathematics beginning August 2025. The Department of Mathematics belongs to the College of Science and Technology, which also includes the Departments of Biological Sciences, Chemistry/Physics, Computer Science, and Industrial and Engineering Technology. The College offers undergraduate degrees and an interdisciplinary master's degree in Integrated Science and Technology. Primary strengths of the College of Science and Technology include first-class experiential learning opportunities for undergraduate and graduate students, strong connections with industrial partners, and close student-faculty relationships. The successful candidate will teach lower-level mathematics service courses and upper-level mathematics courses based upon the department needs. The successful candidate is expected to develop an active research program involving undergraduate and graduate students and to seek external funding to support research initiatives. The successful candidate is to contribute to the functioning of the Mathematics Department.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS 
  • Ph.D. in Mathematics, preferably in the area of Computational or Applied Mathematics, by the hire date 
  • Evidence of effective teaching at the college or university level and research potential

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS 
  • Ability to teach introductory programming courses in Python or R
