Position Description

The Department of Probability and Statistics of the Instituto de Investigaciones en Matemáticas Aplicadas y en Sistemas (IIMAS) at the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (UNAM) invites those interested to apply for a full-time Tenure-track Assistant Professor Position, starting May, 2025.

UNAM is the major University in Mexico, and among the strongest in Latin America. As part of UNAM, IIMAS is a multidisciplinary research institute focused on frontier applications of Mathematics, Computer Science and Engineering with strong collaborations with other national and international institutions. With a team of over 120 academic staff members and located at Ciudad Universitaria (CU), UNAM's main campus, IIMAS offers an excellent opportunity for interaction and academic growth (www.iimas.unam.mx).

The successful candidate's research will lie within the area of Statistics, Data Science or Applied Probability. Duties include teaching one course per semester at graduate or undergraduate level, as well as supervising graduate students. Required qualifications include two years of postdoctoral experience (or equivalent), effective communication skills, commitment to teaching excellence and ability to maintain a high-profile research program supported by journal publications. Knowledge of the Spanish language is preferable, but not compulsory. The applicant is expected to learn it within the first two years. Preference will be given to those who feature leadership in research, teaching experience and capability to supervise students for high level dissertations. The final decision will conform to the department's interests and growth plans.

This position is part of the UNAM program for young scholars, thus there is an age limit of 39 years (women) and 37 years (men).
