Position Description
This is a call for expressions of interest for a position of Postdoctoral Research Associate in Mathematical Physics in the School of Mathematical and Physical Sciences at the University of Sheffield. Candidates with a background in topological string theory, mirror symmetry, gauge theory, arithmetics of Calabi-Yau motives, and applications to Feynman integrals are particularly encouraged to submit a statement of interest in this opening to the e-mail address below (Prof Albrecht Klemm). Interested candidates are also invited to supply a short CV and description of research interests. The expected start date for this position will be in Autumn 2025 and tenable for up to three years. It will not come with any teaching duties. The position will be supported by Prof Albrecht Klemm's Leverhulme International Professorship project "Quantum geometry and arithmetics" starting in March 2025. Please note that applicants will be required to apply through the University of Sheffield e-recruitment system once the position is formally advertised at the inception of the project. This call for EoIs does not therefore replace the formal selection procedure, and is primarily meant to gauge interest in this opening for 2025/26. The Sheffield Algebraic Geometry and Mathematical Physics group (https://agmp.sites.sheffield.ac.uk/) is a thriving and expanding group of geometers and mathematical physicists, with currently 7 permanent faculty and a healthy cohort of postdocs and PhD students. Our interests broadly encompass complex algebraic geometry and the geometric structures that underpin quantum field theory and string theory, including mirror symmetry, Bridgeland stability conditions, topological strings, gauge theory, moduli spaces of curves, Donaldson-Thomas theory, derived categories, dualities in string theory, and their relations to integrability, combinatorics, and number theory. We are not accepting applications for this job through MathJobs.Org right now. Please see the job description above on how to apply.
