Position Description

We are seeking passionate and energetic math faculty to help us inspire and teach mathematically talented middle school students. Faculty will design and lead engaging courses that allow students to experience the joy of mathematical discovery. If you have a love of math and a knack for inspiring curiosity, creativity, and deep thinking in your students, this is the perfect opportunity to share your expertise and make a lasting impact.

For Summer 2025, we will host camps at two locations - Harvey Mudd College in Claremont, CA and at Saint Mary’s School in Raleigh, NC. Faculty roles require a minimum commitment of just one week, with room, board, and round-trip travel provided.

About Us
At National Math Camps, we believe that summer math camps provide transformative experiences that deeply strengthen students' mathematical knowledge and identity. Many of today’s premier mathematicians and scientists point to their participation in math camps as a critical step in their mathematical journeys. It is in these immersive programs that they discovered the beauty and joy of mathematics in a tight-knit community of other “mathy” students and decided to pursue careers that push innovation in the STEM fields.

Yet, the demand for rigorous math camps in the U.S. far exceeds the available opportunities, leaving many talented students without access to these life-changing experiences. National Math Camps is addressing this gap by building a large-scale organization to run a variety of math camps across the country, reaching thousands of mathematically talented middle and high school students each year.

What You'll Do
  • Design and teach one Topics Course per week. These courses meet for nine 90-minute sessions over five days and are designed to foster exploration and allow students to dive deeply into an advanced mathematical topic. Each course will have about 15 students, supported by a counselor serving as a Learning Assistant.
  • Engage with students during Open Math Time. Chat with students in an informal setting about your course or whatever math most sparked their curiosity that day.
  • Contribute to Morning Assembly. Once per week, deliver an interactive lecture or lead a camp-wide math activity to inspire and challenge students.
  • Collaborate with your Learning Assistant. Meet regularly with your Learning Assistant to provide mentorship and discuss your course and students, ensuring that all students are engaged and challenged.
  • Write student notes. At the end of each week, write a few sentences about each student in your class that can be used in their end-of-camp letter.
  • Participate in camp life. Join meals and other camp activities to connect with students and staff while helping to shape the camp’s culture.
What We're Looking For
  • Advanced degree in mathematics or a closely related field (PhD preferred).
  • A passion for teaching and a talent for making deep mathematical concepts both accessible and exciting.
  • Experience with, or a strong interest in exploring, active or inquiry-based teaching approaches.
  • Energy, enthusiasm, and a genuine excitement for working with young students.
  • Prior experience teaching advanced middle school students is a plus but not required. Your Academic Director will provide support and guidance to help you adapt your teaching and course material to this age group.
