Position Description
The Mathematics Department at Tulane University invites applications for the Pendergraft Herbert Buchanan Professorship in Mathematics to begin in the fall of 2025. Applicants at the Associate Professor level are preferred, but exceptional applicants at other ranks may also be considered.We seek candidates who have established a strong record of independent research, are committed to excellence in teaching, and show a dedication to service. The successful candidate will strengthen our existing research program in analysis, particularly in areas such as partial differential equations, dynamical systems, stochastic analysis, or fluid dynamics. We are especially interested in candidates whose research has the potential to connect with broader university-wide initiatives that emphasize interdisciplinary collaboration and address critical global challenges. These initiatives include resilient habitats and communities, the intersection of human cognition and cyber systems, and applications of artificial intelligence.
In all cases, the successful candidate will be expected to: (1) develop and carry out a program of research and other scholarly activities; (2) teach and advise students at the undergraduate, master's, and doctoral levels; and (3) participate in departmental and university service.
Qualifications:
- Ph.D. in Mathematics or a closely related field and a minimum of four years of experience as a tenure-track professor. Equivalent post-Ph.D. experience and accomplishments in academia, industry, or government will also be considered.
- A strong, established research program in mathematical analysis, with a preference for expertise in partial differential equations, dynamical systems, stochastic analysis, or fluid dynamics.
- Demonstrated excellence in teaching at the undergraduate and graduate levels.
