Job Description: General Statement of Duties: Full-time Visiting Assistant Professor position, with opportunities for renewal for up to three years, in Mathematics. Responsibilities include teaching undergraduate mathematics courses, participating as a professional in departmental and college-wide activities, and engaging in scholarly or creative pursuits. The successful candidate will be hired at a rank of Visiting Assistant Professor or Visiting Instructor, depending on qualifications. Preference will be given to those who show evidence of excellence in teaching. Fitchburg State University is a regional comprehensive state university serving north central Massachusetts. The Mathematics Department teaches courses for students of every major including Mathematics major and minor and Data Analytics minor courses. Departmental faculty are dedicated to excellent teaching of all students, research across a variety of areas, and mentorship of both students and fellow faculty. Scholarly and creative pursuits as well as other professional development are supported with annual continuing scholarship and travel funds. Supervision Received: Department Chair of Mathematics. Duties and Responsibilities: Teach a standard workload of three or four courses (12 credit hours) per semester. Prepare for the assigned classroom and/or laboratory instruction. Provide student assistance including office hours and student advising. Participate in curriculum review and development and student outcomes assessment. Attend committee meetings and university functions, including commencement and convocation. Participate in continuing scholarship and professional activities, which include contribution to the content of the discipline, participation in or contribution to professional organizations and societies, public service and contributions to the professional growth and development of the university community. Qualifications: A doctorate in a mathematical discipline by August 2025 is preferred, though candidates with a master's will be considered. Applicants who are ABD should discuss progress towards completion of the doctorate in their letter of application or research statement. Demonstrated evidence of full teaching responsibility for at least one college level mathematics course; additional teaching experience preferred. Commitment to excellence in teaching. Ability to integrate appropriate technology and software in teaching. Evidence of scholarly/creative activity. Ability to work effectively with a diverse student body. Ability to perform all duties with or without reasonable accommodations. Additional Information: Shift Information: Day Full-time, 9 month Benefited Position.
