Position Description
Application Call for a Tenure-Track Assistant Professor Position in Computer Science.The Yucatán Academic Unit of the Instituto de Investigaciones en Matemáticas Aplicadas y en Sistemas (IIMAS) at the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (UNAM) invites applications for a full-time tenure-track Assistant Professor position, starting ~August 2025.
UNAM is Mexico’s leading university and one of the most prestigious institutions in Latin America. IIMAS is a multidisciplinary research institute dedicated to advancing Mathematics, Computer Science, and Engineering, with strong national and international collaborations. The institute offers an excellent environment for academic growth and research (www.iimas.unam.mx). IIMAS has over 120 academic staff members across two campuses: Mexico City and Yucatán. This position is based at the Yucatán campus.
Position Description: We seek candidates whose research falls within the broad area of Computer Science. The successful applicant will be expected to: Conduct high-quality research, leading to peer-reviewed publications; teach one course per semester at the undergraduate or graduate level; supervise and mentor graduate students.
Qualifications:
• A Ph.D. in Computer Science or a related field.
• At least one year of postdoctoral experience (or equivalent).
• Strong communication skills and a commitment to teaching excellence.
• Proven ability to maintain a high-profile research program.
• Spanish proficiency is not required at the time of hiring, but the candidate is expected to acquire it within the first two years.
• Preferred qualifications: leadership in research, teaching experience, and demonstrated ability to supervise graduate theses.
Age Requirement: This position is part of UNAM’s Young Scholars Program, which establishes an age limit of 39 years for women and 37 years for men.

2. Curriculum vitae, including a list of publications.
3. Research project: Applicants must submit a research project of up to 20 pages on an open research area in computer science. Candidates with an independent, well-established, and emerging research line that has the potential for consolidation at the Yucatán Academic Unit are strongly encouraged to apply. The proposed research should complement existing research lines at the unit and demonstrate potential for collaboration with its members. A detailed work plan must be included.
4. Teaching statement, along with evidence of teaching experience.
5. Copy of Ph.D. certificate.
6. Three letters of recommendation, to be submitted directly by the referees.

of the proposed research project is required and will be scheduled at a later
date.
