Position Description
Earlham College is seeking an Assistant Professor of Data Science to join our team.
Job Summary:
Earlham College invites applications for a tenure-track position in the Data Science Program at the rank of Assistant Professor beginning in July 2025. Data Science at Earlham exists at the intersection of computer science and math, serving students across the liberal arts spectrum. Earlham honors experiential education and collaboration with other departments as key components of our approach. We are committed to building an inclusive program that is welcoming to a wide variety of students and faculty. Our students are engaged in a high level of undergraduate research with faculty.
Responsibilities:
- Typical course load: three courses per semester. Upper-division classes generally have no more than 20 students
- Leadership of the Data Science program
- Advising data science majors and minors
Required Qualifications
The successful candidate will:
-
hold a Ph.D. in data science, mathematics, applied mathematics, statistics, computer science, or a closely related discipline by the start date. It is possible that candidates who are ABD or, in exceptional circumstances, have equivalent experience, will also be considered.

teach courses across the data science curriculum, including Statistical Modeling for Data Science and Mathematical Statistics

conduct data science research involving undergraduate students at Earlham
-
demonstrate experience with and a passion for innovative teaching

demonstrate a strong commitment to inclusion and belongingness

have experience working with others outside their field

have experience in building diverse and inclusive communities

consideration given to candidates with specializations in Data Science, Math, Computer Science, or Informatics
