Position Description
The mathematics for materials modelling group (MatMat, https://matmat.org) at the Ecole Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL) invites applications for a postdoctoral researcher position. We seek an outstanding candidate with a PhD in computational mathematics or a related subject and an interest towards modelling materials at the atomic scale, such as electronic structure theory or statistical learning on atomistic structures. The position will focus on employing algorithmic differentiation techniques on density-functional theory simulations to accelerate property-guided inverse materials design. The ideal candidate should have expertise in multiple of the following aspects: Bayesian techniques for surrogatisation, Bayesian optimisation, method development for inverse problems, first-principle methods in materials science (such as density-functional theory or molecular dynamics). Screening of candidates will be done on a rolling basis until the position has been filled. Expected starting date is the second half of 2025.
