Position:
The Jess and Mildred Fisher College of Science and Mathematics invites applications for a non-tenure-track, 9-month Visiting Assistant Professor position, in the Department of Mathematics beginning August 2025. The initial appointment is for one year and is planned to be renewable for additional years.

Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a Ph.D. (or equivalent) in Mathematics Education, Mathematics (with significant work experience in Mathematics Education), or a closely related field, before August 15, 2025.  Department needs include mathematics teacher education (any grade band) at the pre-service or in-service level. Outstanding candidates in other mathematics education specialties will be given full consideration. 

Responsibilities:
This position will be assigned an instructional workload of six course units (three credit hours each) per academic year. Faculty members in mathematics education teach a broad spectrum of courses, and a strong commitment to excellence in teaching is essential. The successful candidate will support pre-service and in-service teacher education through our undergraduate majors and in the Master’s degree program in Mathematics Education. Additionally, they will engage in a productive program of scholarship, with a willingness to pursue external funding opportunities and/or engage undergraduate and graduate students in research experiences. The successful candidate will participate in projects including curriculum development and course design (particularly with regards to supporting teacher professional growth), outreach to local school districts, and/or departmental efforts in promoting diversity, equity, inclusion, and justice.

The Department:
The Department of Mathematics has 54 full-time faculty and over 150 math majors. We offer a Bachelor of Science degree in mathematics, with concentrations in Secondary Education, Actuarial Science, Applied Mathematics, and Pure Mathematics, as well as masters degrees in Mathematics Education, Actuarial Science and Predictive Analytics, and Applied and Industrial Mathematics. The Secondary Education concentration is offered in partnership with Towson UTeach, Maryland’s leader in STEM teacher education. Salary and Benefits:
Targeted salary range: $70,000-$75,000 commensurate with experience.
