Position Description

The Department of Mathematics and Statistics at the University of New Mexico invites applications for a postdoctoral fellow position in pure mathematics, beginning in Fall 2025. This appointment may be renewed for additional periods after one year, subject to available funding and continued satisfactory performance.

The successful candidate will be expected to: (1) teach two undergraduate math courses per semester, (2) maintain an active research program, and (3) participate in the department’s research activities. They will have the opportunity to continue their current research projects while also engaging in collaborative work with department members. The preferred starting date is in August 2025. Review of applications will commence on April 9, 2025, but applications will be considered until the position is filled. Required Qualifications:

A PhD in mathematics or a related field by the start date. Strong research potential in Algebra, Analysis or Geometry. Demonstrated ability or potential for effective teaching.

Preferred Qualifications:

A proven record of discovery in Algebra, Analysis or Geometry. A track record of effective undergraduate mathematics teaching. A strong commitment to fostering student success. Ability to work effectively with a diverse student population. A demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and student success, as well as working with broadly diverse communities.
