Position Description

The Department of Mathematics at Marymount Manhattan College invites applications for a Visiting Instructor/Assistant Professor of Mathematics to begin Fall 2025 pending final budget approval. This is a one-year appointment with a 12-credit per semester teaching load (4 courses per semester). This position may be renewable based on performance evaluation, institutional need and resource availability.

Salary Range: $70,000-$72,000

Required Qualifications:

-Ph.D. in Mathematics or a closely related field

-Minimum two years of college-level teaching experience, with teaching expertise in mathematics

-Ability to teach Quantitative Reasoning, Precalculus, Calculus I, II, III, Differential Equations, Discrete Mathematics, and upper-level math courses

-Ability to use technology, i.e., learning software systems and MMC’s course management system (Brightspace) in course delivery.

Responsibilities:

Responsibilities include teaching 12 credits per semester (a 4/4 teaching load), primarily 100-level and 200-level math courses. Specific course assignments will depend on the expertise of the candidate and the needs of the department. Responsibilities also include: 1) keeping regular office hours; 2) advising and mentoring undergraduate students as needed; 3) participating in departmental, divisional, and faculty council meetings; and 4) engaging in other departmental service as determined by the department chair.

Candidates who have completed a Ph.D. will be considered for appointment at the rank of Visiting Assistant Professor; candidates who are near completion of a Ph.D. (ABD) may be considered for appointment at the rank of Visiting Instructor.

The cover letter should address the candidate’s ability to teach undergraduate-level math courses to non-science, science, and engineering students.
