Position Description

With its long tradition of excellent research, the Department of Mathematics at Stockholm University has a prominent place in Scandinavian mathematics. The department consists of three divisions: mathematics, mathematical statistics and computational mathematics. Researchers working at the division Mathematical Statistics have skills that span many different branches of mathematical statistics, including biostochastics, biostatistics, high-dimensional statistics, discrete random structures, insurance mathematics, stochastic control theory and statistical machine learning.

Subject description:

Mathematical Statistics consists of statistical theory and probability theory, and their applications.

Main responsibilities:

Research, teaching and supervision. A significant part of the teaching relates to modern statistical methods.

Qualification requirements:

In order to qualify for the position as associate professor, the applicant must have demonstrated good teaching skills and have a doctoral degree or equivalent in mathematics, or an equivalent subject.

All teaching positions at Stockholm University require the ability to collaborate and the general ability and suitability to perform one’s duties.

Teaching and learning in higher education:

Completed training in teaching and learning in higher education, or equivalent knowledge, is an advantage. An applicant who has not completed at least 15 credits of teaching and learning in higher education and is not considered to have otherwise acquired equivalent knowledge should undergo such training within the first two years of employment.

Assessment criteria:

In the appointment process, special attention will be given to research and teaching skills. The assessment of research skills will focus primarily on merits within the subject area of the position.

The following will also be considered:

Research skills demonstrating the ability to mathematically analyse and develop methods in statistical machine learning or computational statistics.

Teaching experience in modern statistics.

Broad knowledge in Mathematical Statistics.

In the case of otherwise equal qualifications, the following criteria will be used to distinguish between candidates: Preconditions for research collaborations within the Department of Mathematics.

Additional information:

* Swedish “universitetslektor”; tenured position approximately equivalent to Senior Lecturer (UK) or Associate Professor (US).

Proficiency in Swedish is not a requirement at the time of appointment, but the candidate should be able to carry out teaching and administrative duties that require good command of Swedish within two years of employment.
