Position Description
Call for Applications: PIMS Co-Director, Careers
Applications are invited for the position of Co-Director, Careers of the Pacific Institute for the Mathematical Sciences (PIMS) for a term of up to five years. The start date is negotiable, but must be on or before July 1, 2026. PIMS is a leading consortium of mathematical scientists from:

About the Position
The PIMS Board of Directors appoints two faculty members at PIMS Member Universities as Co-Directors as a result of a competitive search process. The PIMS Co-Directors will report to the PIMS Director, serve for up to 5 years and may be reappointed for at most one additional term of up to 5 years.
Position Portfolio
The Co-Director, Careers is responsible for running career-related PIMS activities and industrial research activities. In particular, the portfolio of Co-Director, Careers:- Has primary responsibility for industry and non-academic research partner relations.
- Contributes to all strategic decisions for PIMS and is primarily responsible for strategic decisions for PIMS that are related to industrial collaboration or career pathways in the mathematical sciences.
- Recruits and provides guidance and feedback for industry and career-related proposals. Primarily responsible for providing guidance/feedback for summer schools and HQP-facing activities.
- Is responsible for structuring partnerships or MOUs to support industry collaboration and career development for HQP.
- Is primarily responsible for industrial/government grant proposals to support PIMS industry and career-related activities, and serves as PI on such proposals when appropriate.
- Has primary responsibility for career development for PIMS PDFs, in coordination with the rest of the Directorate. Manages PDF Orientation, PDF Summit, and Emergent Research seminar series.
- Has primary responsibility for career development for graduate students. Manages the Network-wide Courses.
- Has responsibility for management of any additional PIMS staff at the Member Institution where they are employed.
- Is responsible for EDI policy for PIMS, in coordination with the Director and other Co-Director(s). Has primary responsibility for delivering EDI-related training activities to the PIMS network. funding opportunities for thematic and international research activities.
The successful candidate will work closely with the PIMS Director and the PIMS Co-Director, Programs.
Applicants must have an exceptional record of accomplishment in the mathematical sciences (including mathematics, statistics, computer science, or related fields) and possess expertise and skills aligned with the scientific and educational mandate of PIMS, as detailed on the PIMS website. Candidates should also demonstrate strong leadership, organizational, and communication skills.
