Junior Professor (W1, tenure track W2) in Algebra

at the Faculty of Mathematics, Computer Science and Natural Sciences

This is a tenure-track junior professorship leading to a tenured W2 position. The position is funded by the Tenure Track Program of the German federal and state governments. This call for applications is therefore particularly targeted at early career researchers. For further information about the tenure track process, please visit http://www.rwth-aachen.de/tenuretrack.

We are inviting applications for a junior professor position in the area of algebra, to be filled as soon as possible. The candidate should contribute to research in algebra and pursue interdisciplinary approaches. The professorship will focus on a current research area in algebra and meaningfully complement the existing research, for example, in the fields of representation theory, algorithmic algebra, tropical geometry, or algebraic geometry. Active participation in the department's research initiatives, particularly in collaborative research centers, is expected. The role also includes an appropriate contribution to the teaching responsibilities of the mathematics department.

Candidates should have a university degree and a particular ability to undertake academic work, which is generally demonstrated by an outstanding doctorate. Teaching ability and dedication are essential and the application should include proof of this. Fluent German is not required to start the position but the successful candidate will be expected to hold classes in German within the first 5 years.

Participation in academic self-administration is expected.
