Mathematics in a broad sense, which also includes mathematical statistics, numerical analysis and optimization theory.

Duties

As an associate professor within the framework of this position, you are expected to take substantial responsibility for education in the department. This applies to both teaching and overall responsibility for educational matters. Specifically, you will teach courses at the undergraduate and graduate levels within the subject area. The position also includes leading major course development assignments, taking an active role in the pedagogical development of the subject, and supervising degree theses at the undergraduate and graduate levels. The duties also include a smaller share of research and some administration. Teaching at the undergraduate level is normally in Swedish.

Eligibility

Those eligible to be employed as associate professor are persons who have:
 
  1. completed a doctoral degree or possess equivalent scientific expertise or some other professional expertise that is relevant to the subject area of the employment and the duties that are included in the employment, and
  2. demonstrated pedagogical expertise.

Assessment criteria

The assessment criteria for appointment as an associate professor at KTH shall be the degree of expertise required as a qualification for employment. In addition, the assessment criteria stated in the KTH appointments procedure, section 1.2., applies in relation to the given employment profile. 

Of highest importance is that the applicant has
  • shown the ability to conduct high-quality teaching and to a significant extent at the undergraduate or graduate level and has some experience in education at all levels,
  • the ability to carry out pedagogical development work and some experience of leading and organizing education,
  • shown the ability to teach in Swedish. 
Of second highest importance that the applicant has
  • scientific proficiency in the subject area demonstrated, for example, through publications in high-quality international journals. Scientific proficiency includes the ability to independently formulate and solve research problems at the international research front,
  • the ability to individually supervise degree theses or theses within doctoral education.
  • the ability to develop and lead activities and personnel, which includes knowledge of diversity and equity concerns with a particular focus on gender equality, 
It is also important that the applicant has
  • familiarity with current pedagogical developments in the subject area.
  • the ability to apply for, obtain funding for, and conduct research projects,
  • the ability to cooperate with the surrounding community on educational and research questions,
  • the ability to collaborate,
  • administrative expertise.
