Position Description

The Department of Mathematics of the Faculty of Science at Tübingen University invites applications for the position of

Assistant Professor (W1, non-tenure track) of Mathematical Methods of Quantum Theory

The position is due to commence as soon as possible.

The successful candidate should have an excellent research track record in mathematical quantum theory. In particular, methodological connections to areas of mathematical analysis and/or quantum information theory are desired. Willingness to acquire competitive third-party funding and to participate in joint third-party funded projects both within the Department of Mathematics and in interdisciplinary or cross-location alliances is expected. The position comes with responsibilities in teaching, specifically pertaining to the university’s master's program in mathematical physics and to undergraduate mathematical education, as well as moderate responsibilities in academic self-administration such as committee service.

The position is initially limited to four years, with the possibility of extension by a further two years in case of a positive interim evaluation. Detailed information on the criteria underlying the interim and final evaluations may be found in our guidelines for review under the following link: https://uni-tuebingen.de/en/12271

The successful candidate will contribute to the curriculum of the mathematics department. The position has a teaching load of four hours per week prior to interim evaluation, and six hours thereafter. Independent research activities in the area of mathematical methods of quantum theory are expected. The candidate will qualify for a professor position at a university or an equivalent institution of higher learning by independently fulfilling the requirements needed for researching and teaching at university level.

Required qualifications include an outstanding doctoral thesis in a pertinent field, recognizable potential for internationally visible publications in leading international peer-reviewed journals, and a record of teaching aptitude. The appointment prerequisites of §51 LHG apply. Those who have completed a habilitation will be excluded.

The University of Tübingen is committed to equity and diversity and actively promotes equal opportunities. Female academics, in particular, are explicitly invited to apply, as are applicants from outside Germany. Applications from equally qualified candidates with disabilities will be given preference.
