Position Description
Sepal is conducting a research study to understand work excellence among mathematicians to test the capabilities of leading generative AI models in advanced mathematics. Selected participants will share their professional background, design field-specific screening questions, and document substantial work projects as case studies to create human performance benchmarks. For the purposes of this study, mathematicians are defined as "conducting research in fundamental mathematics or in application of mathematical techniques to science, management, and other fields. Solve problems in various fields using mathematical methods." This definition does not include analysts or those who are interpreting data as their primary work function.
Sample of reported job titles: Mathematics Professor, Post-Doctoral Researchers, Computational Mathematician, Computational Scientist, Cryptographer, Cryptographic Vulnerability Analyst, Image Scientist, Knowledge Engineer, Research Computing Specialist, Research Scientist
MUST-HAVE QUALIFICATIONS:
- 5+ years full-time experience as a mathematician (includes time as a PhD candidate)
- English language fluency
- U.S. residency
- Access to a laptop or desktop computer with reliable internet
- Available for at least 10 hours per week during the 2-3 week engagement (work is fully asynchronous and on your own schedule)
- Technology proficiency: Comfortable with messaging, video calling, and uploading files
- Ability to follow detailed written instructions and complete online tasks independently
COMPENSATION AND LOGISTICS:
- Hourly pay: $59-88 per hour, based on years of experience and fit
- Paid bi-weekly based on tracked and approved hours
- Classification as 1099 independent-contractor; engagement is at-will
- Entirely remote, work whenever you like as long as deadlines are met
