Position Description

Gordon College invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track appointment in Mathematics. Rank will be commensurate with experience. The position begins August 2026.

Located on Boston’s North Shore, Gordon College is dedicated to a strong Christian liberal arts perspective. We strive to foster conversation at the intersection of faith and cultural engagement in a wide variety of disciplines, all with the mission to prepare Christian men and women to actively participate in every community in which they find themselves. We seek someone with a strong background in mathematics and statistics who is a committed Christian and is passionate about teaching and mentoring undergraduate students from diverse cultural backgrounds in a Christian liberal arts setting.

Gordon College’s Mathematics Program offers a B.S. degree and service courses in statistics, applied calculus, and education. Our small classes, tradition of student research, and active community allow faculty to develop strong relationships with students. We are housed in the School of Science and Health and work closely with Data Science and Computer Science. Our alumni take a wide variety of positions, including teaching, working in the local technology industry, and attending graduate school in the mathematical sciences.

A candidate for this position should have a Ph.D. in mathematics, statistics, or a closely related field by the time of appointment and be committed to high-quality teaching at all levels. Additionally, we seek an individual who desires to further our program’s tradition of strong mentoring relationships for its students and demonstrates the potential for a sustained research program involving student work. A demonstrated interest in sharing the outworkings of a committed Christian faith in vocation is essential.

The ideal candidate will: 1. Demonstrate a dynamic Christian faith. 2. Excel at teaching and have a strong desire to develop long-term relationships with students. 3. Show a commitment to nurturing and promoting diversity in their educational and professional communities. 4. Have a Ph.D. in mathematics, statistics, or a closely related field completed by the time of appointment. 5. Exhibit research momentum to continue research and include undergraduates in it. 6. Complement and extend current faculty expertise in Mathematics (algebra, number theory, computational and applied mathematics) and Data Science.

The anticipated teaching load tentatively includes probability, mathematical statistics, and introductory statistics for non-majors. Other course offerings may include additional courses for the major, an introductory course in data science, and an upper-level course in data science.

Interested applicants should submit: • Letter of application that addresses their fit with the Christian mission of Gordon College and with the specific position. • Curriculum vitae that includes the names and contact information of three professional references. • Sample of academic writing. • Statement of teaching philosophy. • Statement of research interests.
