The Mathematics Department at MIT is seeking to fill positions in Pure and Applied Mathematics at the level of tenure-track Assistant Professor or higher beginning July 1, 2026 (for the 2026-2027 academic year, or as soon thereafter as possible). Appointments are based primarily on exceptional research qualifications. For Applied Mathematics, preference will be given to candidates with a strong research program in combinatorics. Appointees will be required to fulfill teaching duties and pursue their own research program. PhD in Mathematics or related field required by employment start date.
The Department of Mathematics offers supportive mentorship to junior faculty and instructors, an exceptional environment for mathematical inquiry, and a strong commitment to an inclusive, welcoming culture. MIT is an equal opportunity employer. We value diversity and strongly encourage applications from individuals from all identities and backgrounds. All qualified applicants will receive equitable consideration for employment based on their experience and qualifications, and will not be discriminated against on the basis of race, color, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, religion, disability, age, genetic information, veteran status, ancestry, or national or ethnic origin. See MIT's full policy on nondiscrimination. Know your rights. Employment is contingent upon the completion of a
satisfactory background check, including possible verification of any findings
of misconduct (or pending investigations) from prior employers.
We request that applications and other materials, including (a) curriculum vitae, (b) publication list (with hyperlinks, if possible), (c) research statement, (d) a broader impact statement, and (e) three letters of recommendation be submitted online at www.mathjobs.org. The broader impact statement can cover any of the following topics: teaching and educational efforts, mentoring, and/or service to the community. It is highly recommended that one of the letters is written specifically to discuss your teaching abilities, experience and/or potential. To receive full consideration, applications must be complete by November 1, 2025.
Pay Range for a 9-month academic appointment for an entry-level Assistant Professor (excluding summer salary) is $140,400 to $156,000. MIT provides pay ranges representing its good faith estimate of what the Institute reasonably expects to pay for a position at the time of posting. The pay offered to a selected candidate during hiring will be based on factors such as (but not limited to) the scope and responsibilities of the position, the candidate's work experience and education/training, and internal peer equity. This pay range represents base pay only and does not include any other benefits or compensation.
