Position Description:

The Department of Mathematics and Statistics invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position in Applied Mathematics, beginning in August 2026. Strong applicants from all areas of Applied Mathematics are encouraged to apply; however, the greatest interest is for applicants with expertise in areas of applied mathematics most relevant to computational sciences including applications to artificial intelligence, biology, data science, differential equations, dynamics, machine learning, medical sciences, network science, and/or those who are interested in establishing vibrant and collaborative research links with other disciplines at Mississippi State University.

Mississippi State University is a Land-Grant University and is designated as a “Very High Research Spending and Doctorate Production” Research 1 university by the Carnegie Foundation. The Department offers a Ph.D. degree in Mathematical Sciences with concentrations in both mathematics and statistics and is highly research oriented. Requirements for a tenure-track position include a doctoral degree or a doctoral degree expected not later than July 2026, demonstrated success in research, and a commitment to effective graduate and undergraduate teaching.

Essential duties and responsibilities include teaching undergraduate and/or graduate-level courses, mentoring M.S. and Ph.D. students, and developing a substantial research program in an area of applied mathematics. Additional responsibilities include engaging in departmental, university, and scientific community service activities.

Salary is competitive and commensurate with qualifications.
