About the Position: 

A postdoctoral position with the Simons Initiative on the Geometry of Flows is available in the School of Mathematics at the University of Minnesota under the supervision of Professor Max Engelstein. The position is supported by the Simons Foundation through an exciting new collaboration at the interface of Astrophysics, numerical analysis, geometric measure theory and mathematical fluids. The project will involve collaboration with scientists and mathematicians from the IAS, Princeton, Rutgers, NYU, the Flatiron Institute, ICREA, Paris-Saclay and ETH-Zurich, More information available at the collaboration website here


We seek a candidate with a background in mathematical analysis, preferably in elliptic PDE, mathematical fluids, geometric measure theory or free boundary problems. Prior experience with scientific computing or numerical analysis is a plus but not necessary and we encourage all strong candidates with an interest in the project to apply. The preferred start date is Summer/Fall 2026. The position has a teaching load of one one-semester course per academic year for up to three years. A third year will be subject to funding availability.

The School of Mathematics, located in the heart of the University of Minnesota's College of Science and Engineering, features over sixty faculty and more than 120 graduate students engaged in world-class research across all areas of mathematics.
