Position Description
We invite applications for postdoctoral positions at the intersection of statistics, mathematics, data science, and structural biology.Position Overview: The successful candidate will join a vibrant, interdisciplinary environment with affiliations at the Department of Statistics and Data Science (S&DS) and the Institute of Quantitative Biology (QBio) under the supervision of Roy Lederman.
We encourage collaboration with colleagues across Yale, including S&DS, QBio, the Institute for Foundations of Data Science (FDS), Wu Tsai Institute (WTI), and the Departments of Applied Mathematics and Mathematics.
Research Focus Areas:
Cryo-EM and structural biology: Developing methods for analyzing conformational heterogeneity, revisiting statistical foundations of reconstruction algorithms, and integrating molecular dynamics with experimental data
Machine learning for physical systems: Advancing theoretical understanding of ML algorithms in scientific computing, with emphasis on cryo-EM applications
Protein structure prediction: Combining traditional and ML-based folding predictions with experimental cryo-EM data
Computational mathematics: Automating the discovery of numerical algorithms and identifying exploitable structures in linear algebra problems
Required Qualifications:
- Ph.D. (or expected by start date) in Mathematics, Applied Mathematics, Statistics, Physics, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or related field
- Originality, independence, and passion for interdisciplinary science
