Position Description
The Department of Mathematical Sciences at the University of Memphis invites applications for the Ralph Faudree Postdoctoral Position. This is a non-tenure track position for a fixed 2-year period, with a target start date in August 2026 running through July 2028 and extendable to an additional potential year upon satisfactory review. Duties include carrying out a collaborative or independent research program in an area of combinatorics or graph theory, (evidenced by publishing articles, attending conferences, and giving research talks), teaching a 2/1 course load each year (9-10 credit hours per year), and mentoring undergraduate and graduate students. Health insurance benefits are included. Dr. Ralph Faudree was a noted coauthor of Paul Erdős and built his career in mathematics at the University of Memphis, serving as provost for 11 years and helping transform the Department of Mathematical Sciences into the renowned research-oriented department that it is today. The combinatorial traditions he helped build remain strong, with active members currently working in Algebraic Combinatorics, Extremal Combinatorics, and Additive Combinatorics. All strong candidates in some area of combinatorics are encouraged to apply, particularly those with potential for collaboration or applications of Combinatorics in areas currently represented. As minimum requirements, candidates must have completed a Ph.D. in Mathematics, or foreign equivalent, before the position start date and must have adequate English skills sufficient to allow teaching mathematics at all levels of instruction. The potential research and ability to function in the Combinatorics Group at Memphis will be primary considerations. A candidate should show strong research potential in an area of mathematics related to Combinatorics, as evidenced through publications, preprints, talks and/or letters of recommendation. Evidence of the ability to teach effectively in a classroom setting is also viewed positively. To apply, complete an application at https://workforum.memphis.edu/postingsFAE1980.Click on the faculty box to find the posting for the Ralph Faudree Assistant Professor in the Department of Mathematical Sciences. Applications must include a cover letter, research and teaching statements, curriculum vitae, and three letters of reference. Applicants should directly upload all material apart from the letters of reference, instead providing contact information for their references who will be contacted with instructions for uploading their letters directly into the system themselves. Details are provided in the workforum link above. To receive full consideration, completed applications should be received by November 16, 2025, but later applications will continue to be considered until the review process is finished. Grynkiewicz (djgrynkw@memphis.edu).We are not accepting applications for this job through MathJobs.Org right now. Please apply at https://workforum.memphis.edu/
