Position Description:

The Department of Mathematical and Statistical Sciences at the University of Alberta invites applications for a Max Wyman Assistant Professorship in any area of pure and applied mathematics. The position has a 3-year fixed-term appointment.

The Department of Mathematical and Statistical Sciences, Faculty of Science, and University of Alberta are committed to access, community and belonging, as documented in Changing the Story and our Indigenous Strategic Plan.

Applications will begin being reviewed on November 24, 2025. The competition will remain open until January 10, 2026. This position is part of the Association of the Academic Staff of the University of Alberta (AASUA). This position offers a comprehensive benefits package, and the salary will be commensurate with experience in accordance with the Academic Teaching Staff Agreement.

RESPONSIBILITIES

The successful candidate will be able to apply for grant funding, establish a research program in an excellent research environment, and develop their teaching portfolio with a teaching load of 2 courses per year. The start date of the position is July 1, 2026.

QUALIFICATIONS

Applicants must have a PhD in pure or applied mathematics (or equivalent), demonstrated accomplishments and outstanding promise in research in any area of pure or applied mathematics, as well as a strong commitment to graduate and undergraduate teaching. Research that enhances existing research groups in the Department will be considered an asset.
