Associate Professor/Assistant Professor in Mathematics Mathematics & Mathematics Education Department

The Mathematics & Mathematics Education Department (MME) invites applicants with an earned doctorate and research portfolio in Mathematics Education for Associate Professor/Assistant Professor position. Requirements

• Doctorate in Mathematics (preferably Discrete Mathematics) • Strong record of publications in reputable, peer-reviewed international journals • Demonstrated excellence in grant leadership as a Principal Investigator (PI) • Proven excellence in teaching at the university level • Excellent communication skills in English • Strong interpersonal skills with proven leadership of diverse, multicultural teams • Understanding and enthusiasm for working in Singapore and Asia, with a cultural appreciation for the region

Additional Requirements for Associate Professor: • High research impact in a particular field of Mathematics, preferably Discrete Mathematics • Proven track record of grant awards, including being the PI of large-scale research projects

Responsibilities: This position involves the development and teaching of curriculum and courses, and the development and conduct of research in Mathematics Education. A successful candidate will be involved in: • Curriculum development and teaching • Supervision and mentorship • Research and development • Knowledge transfer and collaboration • For Associate Professor: community and professional development, international engagement, strategic leadership, and communication

Assistant Professor/Associate Professor in Mathematics (Mathematics and Mathematics Education Academic Group)

Overview

The Mathematics and Mathematics Education Academic Group (MME) at the NIE is part of the Singapore mathematics education ecology that has produced a world-class system for students of varied abilities. Our vision is to be a world-class symbiosis of mathematics educators and mathematicians. A mathematician educator is a teacher of mathematics who bases his/her pedagogy on a strong foundation of mathematics disciplinarity, learning theories and mathematics education research findings. Our mission is to nurture mathematician educators for Singapore and the world through research and exemplary teaching. MME staff engage in research in mathematics education and mathematics to meet the needs of teachers within a changing environment, upholding the mathematical rigour essential to a productive STEM education. We constantly seek innovative and research-informed ways of delivering mathematics content and pedagogy courses in an effort to develop best practices as we collaborate with educators in the schools.

We invite qualified applicants to apply for the Assistant Professor/Associate Professor position in the area of Mathematics Education.

Requirements

The successful candidate should satisfy the following criteria: • A PhD in Mathematics from a reputable university. • A strong record of research and publications in reputable peer-reviewed international journals. • A strong record in university teaching in mathematics courses for undergraduate and postgraduate students. • (Preferably) Has past experience teaching in schools for K-12 levels.

Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be expected to:

• contribute to teaching and course development at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels for mathematics. • develop a research programme and secure competitive research grants. • supervise graduate and undergraduate students in mathematics research and school practicum • teach mathematics courses from pre-service to postgraduate level • teach advanced mathematics content courses for undergraduate pre-service teachers • (For Associate Professor) mentoring of young faculty members and serve in the NIE / NTU committees, and offer professional services to schools, the Ministry of Education and other public education-related organizations on a request basis.
