Position Description

The Honors College at Texas Tech University invites applications for a full-time, 9-month, tenure-track Assistant Professor in Applied Mathematics. We seek an exceptional teacher-scholar whose research, teaching, and engagement mutually reinforce one another and who will thrive in an interdisciplinary honors environment serving students from every major.

Core Responsibilities • Teach four Honors courses per academic year (typically a 2/2 load) and contribute to curriculum development in mathematics-heavy areas across the university. • Mentor undergraduate researchers in honors contexts (e.g., theses, day‑1 paid research) and support high‑impact practices. • Maintain an active research program in applied mathematics (or a closely related field), publish in high‑quality venues, and seek external funding. • Contribute to outreach and engagement with partners beyond the university and provide service to the Honors College, Texas Tech, and the profession.

Qualifications Required • Ph.D. in an applied mathematics discipline or a closely related field by the time of appointment. • Record of scholarly publication (or strong evidence of potential) in applied mathematics or a related area. • Demonstrated commitment to engaged, high‑quality teaching within a broad, liberal‑arts‑oriented and globally minded honors curriculum. • Research/teaching interests that can support honors students across mathematics‑intensive fields (e.g., engineering, business, agricultural & life sciences, geosciences).

Preferred Qualifications • Substantial experience offering high‑quality instruction in introductory calculus, statistics, accounting, and/or finance. • Prior involvement with Honors (as student, staff, or faculty). • Experience with federally funded grants (receiving, working on, and/or seeking). • Success collaborating across disciplines aligned with TTU’s Strategic Research Themes (e.g., Systems Resilience & Adaptability; Powering Our Future; Advancing OneHealth; Rural & Urban Development; Strengthening National Security).

Application Materials (upload via https://sjobs.brassring.com/TGnewUI/Search/Home/Home?partnerid=25898&siteid=5637#jobDetails=899721_5637) • Cover Letter (briefly address fit for the position and Honors pedagogy). • Curriculum Vitae. • Statement of Integrated Scholarship (describe the mutually reinforcing relationship among your research, teaching, and outreach/engagement, with emphasis on honors teaching). • References: Names and contact information for three professional references able to speak to your teaching and scholarly excellence (letters may be requested later).
