Full Professor (W3)
in Next-Generation Computing for Quantum and Molecular Systems
at the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences
We are inviting applications for the position of full professor in the area of next-generation computing for quantum and molecular systems, to be filled as soon as possible. The mathematical research focuses on the interface between computational analysis of quantum and molecular systems and modern high-performance computing. Topics of particular interest include computational methods for many-body quantum systems and for quantum materials, quantum information and quantum computing, exascale and hybrid modalities in high-performance computing, applications of such techniques in large-scale optimization problems, molecular dynamics and stochastic many-particle systems, as well as machine learning in atomistic simulations. Excellent applications with different, but relevant research profiles with focus on related topics are also welcome. Candidates should also have a successful track record of acquisition of third party funding.
Active participation in existing research programs such as Collaborative Research Center 1481 "Sparsity and Singular Structures” as well as in interdisciplinary cooperations, for example within the Jülich-Aachen Research Alliance, are desirable. Adequate participation in the teaching duties of the Department of Mathematics is expected.
The requirements include a doctoral degree and additional research experience, such as a habilitation (post-doctoral lecturing qualification) or equivalent achievements gained as a university researcher or professor or in a research position outside academia. Teaching ability and dedication are essential and the application should include proof of this. Fluent German is not required to start the position but the successful candidate will be expected to hold classes in German within the first 5 years.
Participation in academic self-administration is expected.
