Position Description
The Johns Hopkins University’s Department of Applied Mathematics and Statistics invites applicants for one or more positions as Postdoctoral Fellow. Candidates must have completed their Ph.D. prior to their appointment start date, and no later than 8/31/2026 and show definite promise in research and teaching. The teaching load will be at most one course each semester, and often as little as one course per year, depending on funding and needs of the department, so that the appointee will have ample time for research. The appointment is for two years, with possibility of renewal, depending on funding availability. The successful candidate will be expected to collaborate with Bloomberg Distinguished Professor Domenico Giannone. Professor Giannone’s research lies at the intersection of economics, applied statistics, and data science, with a focus on advancing empirical and computational methods for understanding complex economic and financial systems. Research Areas: Applied statistics and econometrics with emphasis on high-dimensional data analysis, forecasting and predictive modeling, machine learning methods, and applications involving text and other non-traditional data sources. The fellow will contribute to and extend research in these areas, engaging in projects that develop and apply cutting-edge quantitative methods to address pressing questions in economics and related fields. This role provides an opportunity to collaborate with Professor Giannone on innovative interdisciplinary work within the Bloomberg Distinguished Professorships (BDP) program, fostering connections across economics, statistics, and data science. The successful candidate will be encouraged to pursue independent but complementary research, co-author publications, and participate in seminars and collaborative initiatives that promote methodological innovation and cross-disciplinary engagement. Applicants are asked to submit (a) an AMS standard coversheet; (b) a curriculum vitae; (c) a description of research interests and have at least three letters of recommendation submitted. Applicants should apply using: https://apply.interfolio.com/177632 Additionally, the candidates should contact Professor Domenico Giannone via email at domenico.giannone@jhu.edu, with a message containing "Postdoctoral Fellow" in the subject line, discussing any potential overlap of research interests with Professor Giannone.
