Position Description

Oregon State University invites applications for a full-time tenure-track Assistant Professor position in Mathematics beginning September 16, 2026. The areas of research for this position are Algebra, Number Theory, or Probability. Work in more than one of the target areas is not necessary for the position.

Applicants should have a PhD in Mathematics or a closely related field by the anticipated starting date, but experience beyond doctoral dissertation is normally expected. The salary is commensurate with research and teaching experience. Full consideration is guaranteed for applications which are complete by December 15, 2025.

Assistant Professors in the College of Science and the Department of Mathematics are expected to demonstrate effectiveness in teaching, advising and other institutional activities; achievement in scholarship and creative activity that establishes the individual as a significant contributor to the field or profession; and an appropriate balance of institutional and professional service. All professorial positions are expected to make significant contributions to undergraduate and graduate education. Application materials should clearly describe an applicant’s research program, teaching and mentoring experience and goals, as well as mentoring, service, and outreach activities or plans.

The primary mission of the OSU Mathematics Department is to provide education to undergraduate and graduate students in mathematics and to conduct research and scholarly activities in pure and applied areas of mathematics and mathematics education. The department offers PhD, MS, and BS degrees in Mathematics and has a growing student body of about 60 graduate students and more than 250 undergraduate majors.
